Viewing a document

To view any document, click its title.

When you view a document, the following tabs may be available:

Content—includes the complete text of the document, and may include document's rating, metadata, and access to About details.

The following table describes the toolbar functions that you can perform on a document. Some of the actions may be unavailable to you depending on your permissions.

Document Toolbar Actions
Action Description
Add to Favorites Adds a link to the document in the My Favorites list. When prompted, select how you want the document link to be displayed:
  • To display the link title or document name every time, select Always Use Title.
  • To specify the title or name of the link, select Specify Favorite Label.
Back to Previous Page If you followed links in the document, return to the previous page.
Bookmark Adds a document to your browser's bookmarks or Favorites menu. It also allows you to:
  • save the document in a different location OR
  • create a new folder in which to save the document.
Email Document Sends the document to one or more email addresses you specify. Enter email addresses in the To, CC, and BCC boxes. By default, the Subject is the document name. In the Message field, you can enter the message you want to send to the recipients along with the document. When finished, click Submit.This action is available only when you open a document from the Where Used list of documents for an Information Component in the Universal Metadata Manager.
Full Screen Displays the document in a new browser window (full–screen mode).
Turn Highlighting On/Off Turns on or off the highlighting of the search text within the document. Once you turn highlighting on, it remains in effect for all documents you view until you explicitly turn it off or log out of the application. If you are using Adobe Acrobat 9, you must enable this functionality as follows:
  • On the Edit menu in Adobe Acrobat 9, click Preferences, and then click Search.
  • Select the Enable search highlights from external server checkbox.
  • Click OK to save your changes.
Print Opens a new browser window with a printer–friendly version of the document.
Subscribe to Document through Email Enables you to subscribe to the document by email. You can choose when you want to receive an email notifications for the document:
  • immediately
  • daily
  • weekly
Subscribe to Document through RSS Enables you to subscribe to the document through an RSS feed. You can either:
  • click the document URL to add to your browser's RSS Reader OR
  • copy the URL to a reader of your choice.
Up to Search Results If a document was opened from the search results, this option enables you to return to the Search Results page.

The following table describes the actions that you can perform on the Document View page. Some of the actions may be unavailable to you depending on your permissions.

Action Description
About Displays detailed information about the document, such as the Document Type, author's name, creation and publication dates, archive and review dates, last modified date, and so on. To display information about any items in the customer dictionary that apply to the document, click View More. To see the XML source for the document in a new window, click View XML.
Escalate Enables you to create a case with support.When you click Escalate, you may be asked to provide any relevant information, such as log files, that may be helpful for the resolution. Once the escalation is submitted, the system makes the case with all the session information available to the agent. You can track the case by returning to the Microsite tab.
Feedback Enables you to view and provide feedback for the document. For more information, Feedback tab.
Rate the Document Enables you to view the rating of a document as well as rate a document.
View XML Enables you to view the XML (source) version of the document. Dates and times in the XML are Knova server date and time; they are not transformed to the client system date/time. For more information about this View, View XML.
